Sacred or Secular: Which has the Greatest Reverence for Life?

If you would like to have a 10 min. video to possibly give a more comprehensive view of my position on societal improvement via the elimination of capital punishment, my 10 min segment in the debate seemed to steal the show.

Public & Private Freedoms

PUBLIC & PRIVATE FREEDOMS

Public school prayer and the Ten Commandments displayed in the courtroom here in Alabama needs to be dealt with void of emotion. I would like to unequivocally support our first great amendment to the Constitution in our Bill of Human Rights, which supports freedom of conscience we call freedom of religion. The gross misinformation that floats around our society indicating that our country was founded on Christian principles is in error. Religious persecution was one primary cause of the migration from Europe to America. Freedom is a glorious human right that is hardly appreciated by fundamentalists. People whose passion gets
out of balance apparently believe they would be doing Abraham, Jesus and Muhammad justice by placing a gun to the head of someone and forcing their verbal allegiance. Perhaps it is good to remember that Adolf Hitler was the master at using this powerful tool of social conformity.

From the Womb

FROM THE WOMB

Dear America,
I have a beating heart that many say qualifies me for having a life. I am not so sure I have a life yet since I have not experienced a sunset or savored all the ecstasies of the senses.

Good Growth, Bad Growth

Good Growth, Bad Growth

Two weeks ago mobile had another 15 acre corner raped by a developer. It is unique to watch their new Blitz-krieg style to thwart would he tree huggers. Within 48 hours the corner of airport blvd. And Cody rd was systematically raped. Now you see it now you don't! Will tile mauling of mother earth ever stop? Yes, but I am not so sure we will like this world whenever that decision is made. Growth can be both good and bad.

Capital Punishment - Right or Wrong?

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT - RIGHT OR WRONG?

Most all human progress has been achieved by people who were idealists as opposed to those who are mentally, emotionally and spiritually captured by the status quo. How dare Columbus challenge the status quo belief that the world was flat and had four corners! The nerve of Galileo to postulate such a radical idea that the sun rather than the earth is the center of the universe! The ancient Greeks and Romans believed they could build a better civilization, but once they felt they had achieved same, their idealism withered and so did their civilization. I wonder just how idealistic the greats of science, religion, politics, the
arts, literature, etc. are? It seems to me that most all real achievement has been by idealists. Thus, with the position developed herein, I hope it will be seen as a balance between
reason and idealism.

A Kinder, Gentler America

A KINDER, GENTLER AMERICA

It seems a very large percentage of Americans remember this quote from President Bush
about 10 years ago. However, it might be merely a smoke screen blurring the publics view from what fellow republicans perceive as a realistic worldview. What I mean by this is that in its natural state, this is a tough world ruled by fang and claw. You don't have to be a naturalist to know that nature is ruled by eat and be eaten. Few animals, if any, are without natural predators up and down the food chain. Whenever you observe the human animal in this incredible cycle of nature, it is one of a small minority of species that wars and kills its own. Einstein was very correct when he wrote 'HOW STRANGE IS OUR SITUATION ON EARTH.' Because human history is wrapped around the history of war and power, perhaps it is mere rhetoric to speak of a kinder, gentler America when in reality we have a need for a truly tough army, which will deter our enemies. Was it not Teddy Roosevelt who said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick."? There we have it, real world ideas carrying America into this next millennium.

Celebrating a Great Life 100 Years After His Death

How do you capture greatness with a pen? Mark Twain did and we should all be thankful
for possibly the greatest wordsmith in the American Experience.

Anthropocentrisrn : The Epitome of Our Vanity

In the course of human history many
worthless things have crept upon this scene.
Perhaps the most worthless of all things having
questionable value is vanity. 'We cannot gaze
upon the human experience without witnessing
vanity in some form. Vanity creeps up in our self
image, in our success, power, beauty, cunning,
goodness, intelligence, virtue, religion, mores,
automobiles, families, life styles, heritage, homes,
neighborhoods, cities, states, countries etc.
There is possibly no end to our vanity, but the one
thing I want to address here is the polysyllabic
word that intellectuals banter about. It seems we
should all be aware of anthropocentrism. I have
become convinced that this very sinister force is
greatly responsible for many of the troubles in our
society.

Free Will, Myth or Motive

DOES FREE WILL EXIST? FREE WILL, MYTH OR MOTIVE

ON MANY OCCASIONS I HAVE POSTULATED THAT SIGMUND FREUD
ASSASSINATED ALL CONCEPT OF FREE WILL BY STATING THAT MANKIND
IS THE PRODUCT OF GENETICS PLUS WHAT ANY PERSON EXPERIENCES
EQUALS THAT PERSON. HOW CAN ANY PERSON BE ANYTHING MORE OR
LESS?

Prejudice, Our First Line of Defense

PREJUDICE IS PERENNIAL; IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN AND WILL ALWAYS BE.
HOWEVER, IN OUR MODERN WORLD WE NOW KNOW PREJUDICE HAS TWO SIDES;
IT CAN BE EITHER GOOD OR BAD. DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE COLOR,
TEACHER, MENTOR, SUIT, RELATIVE, CAR, ETC? IF SO, IT CAN BE SAID
YOU ARE PREJUDICED. OBVIOUSLY, PREJUDICE CAN HAVE A NEGATIVE SIDE.
IT CAN MEAN THAT WE FAVOR OURSELVES BY PUTTING SOMEONE ELSE DOWN.
RACIAL PREJUDICE IS A PHENOMENON I ORIGINALLY FOUND DIFFICULT TO
UNDERSTAND. BUT I THINK IN THE LAST THREE DECADES I HAVE GARNERED
SOME INSIGHT WHICH IS WORTHY OF SHARING.

One Nation Under God

THE DISTRICT COURT RULING REGARDING THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE IS EXACTLY CORRECT. IF I MAY BE PRESUMPTUOUS, WE MUST CONSIDER THE WISDOM OF OUR FOUNDING FOREFATHERS AND JUST WHY DID THEY WANT SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.

Letters to the Editor - The Harbinger

Global Capitalism has Replaced Warmongering

Let Us Kill

With the execution of Henry Hays and the probable death
sentence of Timothy McVeigh, it seems our society is positive in
its affirmation of revenge as a justifiable motive. If so, this
may be one of the greatest negatives our system of justice can
meter out. If we support the violence and killing of capital
punishment, is it not an indictment of us as a society saying that
we value revenge as a motive? Personally, it seems to me that
revenge is the most wretched motive of all and it elevates the
condemned to some form of equality (i.e., they kill and they get
equal treatment). Hays and McVeigh are sick, pathetic characters.
I do not want to elevate their sicker, more pathetic existence to
anything other than acknowledge just that. They are sick and
pathetic. Should we as a society kill people who are sick? If
not, then why do we condone capital punishment?

The Origin of Aviation

                                                                          1903 --2003

ON DECEMBER 17, WE WILL BE CELEBRATING THE ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF AVIATION. I HOPE THIS LITTLE ESSAY HELPS THE READER TO PAUSE AND REFLECT.

THE ORIGIN OF AVIATION

FROM THE BEGINNING OF RECORDED HISTORY MAN'S MIND HAS ALWAYS ADMIRED, ENVIED, AND WORSHIPED THOSE CAPABLE OF FLIGHT. IT WAS EASY TO LOOK UP AND SEE NO TROUBLES, WHILE BEING AWARE THAT UPON THE GROUND YOU FOUND YOUR ENEMIES, NOT ONLY FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE YOUR CULTURE BUT, BEAST, FAMINE AND PESTILENCE WERE UPON YOU. FLIGHT, IF OBTAINABLE, WOULD BE EUPHORIC TO SAY THE LEAST.

Reverend Robert Revisited

In 1798 Reverend Thomas Robert Malthus wrote an essay on ‘Population’ which was probably about the size of a 250 page modern book. Perhaps it is good for the reader to remember that was long before the days of Tesla’s wireless radio and modern T.V. etc. Newspapers were not very old or as pervasive as today. Perhaps an essay was more likely to be read than a book.

Insurance Pamphlet - Protecting Your Home

AS OUR SOCIETY EVOLVES IT GETS MORE AND MORE COMPLEX. HOWEVER, AS AN INSURANCE AGENT, I AM HIRED BY MY CUSTOMERS TO HELP PROTECT THEIR HOMES, AUTOS, ETC. VIA THIS NOT SO MODERN CONCEPT CALLED INSURANCE. PLEASE NOTE THAT I OFTEN CALL MY CUSTOMERS FRIENDS BECAUSE THE COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT TODAY MEANS I HAVE A LOT OF COMPETITION SO MY ATTITUDE IS THAT I AM MOST FORTUNATE TO HAVE THEIR PATRONAGE THAT I AM HUMBLED AND FRIENDS THAT HELP YOU GET THROUGH THIS RATHER UNIQUE LIFE ARE TRUE FRIENDS.

There is a Price to Pay for Greed

THERE IS A PRICE TO PAY FOR GREED
OR
FOLLOW THE MONEY

Jesus, the one whom the Christian community claims to follow, apparently never asked for any money or offerings whenever he spoke to and served the crowds of his day. It seems paradoxical that the Christian Church thrives on money. The Catholic church did not become the single richest institution in the world by accident.

Le Grande Doctuer

How do you describe the large size of Goliath? Perhaps huge, gargantuan, larger than life may be moving in the right direction. Fortunantely for us, Dr. Albert Schweitzer lived, and did so magnificently and he may have been as real as it gets. I hope you will get the essence of my meaning by the end of this essay.
